Clean Eating

With the warm, sunny summer days upon us, it is the perfect time to clean up your diet. Local farmer’s markets are up and running, gardens are blooming, and fresh produce is in abundance. Your Mankato Chiropractor is here to help you make some simple changes that will impact your health and wellness for years down the road. Clean eating involves the basics of a healthy diet. Here are a few simple tips to get on the path to a healthier, happier you!

Eat whole foods. Whole foods are items that have been altered as minimally as possible. They have no artificial ingredients or additives. Some great options include fruit, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and grass-fed, free-range meat.

Avoid processed foods. Processed foods are items that have been deliberately changed before they are available for us to eat. Essentially anything with a label is processed. It can be as simple as freezing or drying, all the way to a complex list of ingredients you probably can’t even pronounce.

Eliminate refined sugars. Over consumption of sugar is the top cause of obesity is America. Sugar leads to a wide variety of negative health problems including tooth decay, sickness, disease, and even cancer. Refined sugar is often hidden on ingredient labels under titles like high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, and fructose.

Cook your own meals. As tempting as it may be to buy a meal in a box or even swing by a fast food drive-thru, this is not a part of a healthy regular diet. These items are generally high in fat, sugar, and salt. Start making meal prep a part of your family’s daily routine. Be creative and have fun with it!

Keep a balanced diet. The majority of your daily calories should come from a combination of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. This will help keep your body fueled and leave you satisfied for much longer!
